Who is required to have an HCS Account?
In New York State (NYS), licensed health facilities, providers, and practitioners, as well as other partner organizations, are required to have a HCS account to support health data reporting and distribution.
If your organization needs to receive or submit data to be in compliance with your overseeing NYS agency, then your facility, agency or service needs to establish their organization on HCS so authorized individuals can create accounts on the HCS associated with the organization. Some facilities or providers are required by law to maintain their HCS account such as nursing homes, hospitals and adult care facilities for electronic data exchange with the NYS Department of Health.
Other examples of HCS users include:
- Licensed Health Facilities: Hospitals, nursing homes, and other licensed facilities.
- Health Providers and Practitioners: Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Other Partner Organizations: Local health departments and organizations involved in health data reporting and distribution.
How to sign up for an HCS Account?
There are two main paths to sign up for an HCS account.
- NYS Licensed Medical Professionals: Can apply for an HCS account through a "paperless" application process using your NYS healthcare license. Licensed Medical Professionals start here.
- Unlicensed Professionals: Can apply for an HCS account with the assistance of their organization’s HCS coordinator. Unlicensed Professionals start here.
All HCS accounts are assigned to individual users. Sharing an account with someone else is a violation of our security policy, risking you and your organization losing access to the Health Commerce System.
